Amex Shop Small Offer – 2x Rewards at Small Businesses
American Express is once again offering incentives to their cardholders to spend at small businesses during the Shop Small promotion. This year, American Express Card Members can enroll their eligible American Express Card(s) and earn 2X rewards when they Shop Small for the entire holiday season–now through December 31.
In past years, Amex has offered statement credits, but only on Small Business Saturday on Thanksgiving weekend. Last year, cardholders were disappointed when they didn’t offer any incentives at all.
How it Works
First, enroll your eligible American Express Personal or OPEN Small Business Card by going to amex.co/shopsmalloffer. A list of all eligible cards can be found here. Once you’re enrolled, all purchases at qualifying small businesses will earn 2x Rewards. You can find your local qualifying businesses on the Shop Small Map,
Only Primary Card Members (Basic Card Members) are eligible to enroll in this offer. However, enrolled Primary Card Members can earn 2X Rewards for purchases made at qualifying small businesses by all Additional Card Members (supplementary Card Members) on their Card account.
Rewards for qualifying purchases will automatically appear on your account within 10-12 weeks after the offer period ends on December 31, 2016.
You only earn 2x rewards on the base points your particular card earns. For example, if you have a Premier Rewards Gold card which already earns 2X Membership Rewards points at supermarkets, you will not earn 4X points at those supermarkets that are also qualifying small businesses with this offer. But you will still earn one additional Membership Rewards point per dollar in addition to the 2 Membership Rewards points that you already earn with your card (for a total of 3).
The big news here is that this offer is valid through the end of the year. That’s nearly 3 months of extra points or cash back instead of just on Small Business Saturday. This offer will move the American Express SPG card closer to the top of my wallet. When I’m at local businesses that I know qualify, I’ll be sure to use that card above all others.
