Current Amex Offers… and Avoiding Potential Pitfalls

Using Amex Offers is a fantastic way to save on purchases. As always, there is some fine print in each offer’s terms and conditions, but I’ll teach you what to look out for, and how to avoid any potential pitfalls.

In my last post, Amex Offers = Too Good To Miss Out!, I wrote about how to connect your American Express card to your social media account and how to add offers to your card via Twitter, Facebook, or your americanexpress.com account. Twitter is the easiest method, but for targeted offers, you should be logging on to your americanexpress.com account to add them.

The first table below is a list of all current Amex Offers that are publicly available via Twitter by tweeting the appropriate hashtag. The second table is a small sampling of additional offers available to me in my americanexpress.com account. You may or may not see these same offers in your account.

In both tables, I’ve highlighted in bold some of the nuances that you need to look out for. Before you make any purchases, read the fine print associated with the offer you are using. Some offers require a single purchase of a certain amount, though most will allow cumulative purchases through the expiration date. Some may give you a statement credit of a fixed dollar amount, others are a percentage of your purchase (typically with a maximum specified in the fine print). Some specify where your purchases must be made–either online or in-store. The Sam’s Club offer below will give you credit for a purchase of membership, but not for any other types of purchases. You’ll see offers exclusively for gift cards, like the one for Olive Garden. Many others specifically exclude them in the terms.

Bottom Line

After using Amex Offers for a while, you will be able to quickly recognize the language that American Express uses in their Terms and Conditions.
