Should You Cancel Sapphire Preferred after getting the Reserve Card?
Congratulations! You’ve been approved for the extremely popular Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card! Now what should you do with the your other Ultimate Rewards earning cards like Freedom and Freedom Unlimited? Should you cancel Sapphire Preferred? The answer is different for each card. There’s no reason to cancel the cards that don’t charge an annual fee, but Sapphire Preferred does and also shares many of the same benefits as Sapphire Reserve. I’ll go through each card and explain what your options are. Background Having additional Chase credit cards that earn Ultimate Rewards is a great complement to the Sapphire Reserve. You can earn points by purchasing goods and services with one card, then…

How Does Chase Sapphire Reserve’s Travel Credit Impact the Signup Bonus?
When I applied for the Chase Sapphire Reserve card in January, the signup bonus was 100,000 Ultimate Rewards Points after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months. I’ve been asked what would happen if some of that spending was on travel, triggering the $300 travel credit. If the credit takes you back below $4,000, do you still get the points? I had already received some travel credits as soon as I got the card and was getting close to meeting my own spending requirement. So, I decided to test this for myself. My plan was simple: get to just over $4,000 in total spending and stop using the card. Other…

How to Transfer Chase Points to the Sapphire Reserve Card
Chase has a number of credit cards that earn points in the Ultimate Rewards program, and depending on how you redeem them, they could have a different value. I’ll show you how to transfer your points to the card that gives them the highest value–Chase Sapphire Reserve. The Chase credit cards that earn UR points are: Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, Sapphire, Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, and business cards such as Ink Cash, Ink Unlimited, Ink Preferred. While each card shares the “Ultimate Rewards” name, there are differences in how you can redeem your points among those cards. The good news is that you can earn points in each card’s generous bonus categories, then…

Double-Dipping the Chase Sapphire Reserve Travel Credit
NOTE: For applications after May 21, 2017, Chase has changed the date that the Reserve’s annual travel credit resets from each December to the first statement after your account anniversary. If you applied prior to May 21, 2017, the information in this post still applies. For those who applied more recently, please refer to the double-dipping information in this updated post. One of the most generous benefits of the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card is its $300 annual travel credit. Even better, during the first year you have the card, you can receive the full travel credit twice–that’s $600–while paying only one annual fee of $450. You will have more…

I’ve Finally Been Approved for Chase Sapphire Reserve
At long last, after my first ever credit card denial for this card back in August, I’ve been approved for the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card. Despite being quite above the limit from Chase’s 5/24 rule (5 new credit cards in the last 24 months), I was instantly (ok, it took over 4 months) approved at my local branch. My motivation for visiting my local branch today was the recent news that Chase would be reducing the signup bonus for Sapphire Reserve from 100,000 UR points to 50,000. If I wasn’t pre-approved (see below) at the bank, I would not have applied again as that attempt would have surely been fruitless. I would…

My SPG Moments Experience in a Madison Square Garden Suite
When you think of points earned from credit cards, you generally think of free flights or cash back. But with SPG Moments, your Starwood Preferred Guest points can reward you with great experiences as well. The Moments program gives SPG members VIP access to concerts, culinary experiences, premier sporting events and more. Starwood has luxury suites at New York’s Madison Square Garden, the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, and the O2 Arena in London. You can purchase or bid on events at these and many other venues using your SPG points. I recently purchased an SPG Luxury Suite New York Rangers package and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Background I’ve been…

Higher Credit Card Signup Bonuses In Chase Branches vs Online
There are multiple reports by Reddit Churning users who are seeing higher signup bonus offers in Chase bank branches than the normal bonuses online. These offers appear to be targeted to certain pre-approved customers so YMMV. Most of the Miles and Points blogs are not reporting on this since they are paid referral fees for credit card signups via their own online links. Sending readers to branches to apply for credit cards is bad for their business. This could be the beginning of Chase attempting to rein in some referral costs. Sapphire Preferred – 70,000 point bonus So far, the credit cards offering higher bonuses are Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase…

Coming Soon: Chase Ink Business Preferred Credit Card
According to an article on Bloomberg, Chase is continuing its recent push to woo credit card users away from its competition–this time focusing on lucrative business owners. Card holders will also earn 3 points per $1 for the first $150,000 spent on travel, telecommunications, shipping and advertising on social-media and search engines.
