Status Match: Marriott Gold to National Exec Elite and Hertz PC

This is the first in a series of posts on Status Matches. If you’ve earned elite status at a hotel chain, car rental company, or cruise line, competing chains might upgrade your status in their loyalty programs as well. Over the next few days, I’ll go over a few of these for you.

First up, a timely one: Status Match your Marriott Gold Elite or Platinum Elite tier to National Car Rental (Emerald Club) Executive Elite. You can then match your new Emerald Club status to Hertz President’s Circle. That will give you top tier status in both car rental loyalty programs.

Why is this timely? On August 18, 2018, as part of the SPG merger, Marriott Rewards tiers are changing and it’s not clear how each tier will continue to be matched. The “new” Marriott Gold will actually be a lower tier than the “current” Marriott Gold.

If you’ve earned Marriott Gold through Marriott stays, you’ll be Marriott Platinum on August 18. No worries there. However, if you were matched to Marriott Gold because of your SPG Gold status obtained via your American Express Platinum Card benefit, you’re probably moving to the new “less elite” Marriott Gold.

This is all very confusing, so I suggest leveraging your current Marriott Gold Elite status before August 18.

UPDATE: Reddit user bjb718 has been able to match their NEW Marriott Gold Elite status to National Executive Elite, so this still works with the new Marriott Rewards tiers.

Match Marriott Gold to Emerald Club Executive Elite

To match your Marriott Gold Elite you’ll need to send proof to Emerald Club. I simply did a screen capture of my Marriott Rewards card from my Apple Wallet. It had very little information but it worked.

Click on the image above or this link for the Status Match page. Enter in your details, upload the screen capture, and hit the submit button. In less than 24 hours, I received an email welcoming me to Executive Elite Status.

Prior to the match, I had Emerald Club Executive as a benefit of my American Express Platinum card. Here’s a list of Executive benefits:

Match Emerald Club Executive Elite to Hertz President’s Circle

All you need to do is send an email with proof of your new status (I forwarded my congratulatory email from Emerald Club) to hertzstatusmatch@hertz.com. You’ll need to include the following information:

• First and last name as it appears on your Hertz account
• Address as it appears on your Hertz account
• Phone number
• Email address

Here are the Hertz President’s Circle Benefits:

• Guaranteed one-car-class upgrade.
• 25% bonus points on all rentals.
• For every 15 rentals, receive a 675 point bonus to your account.
• Confirmed vehicle availability.
