American Express Refreshes Gold Card

American Express has a newly refreshed version of its popular Premier Rewards Gold Card, which will now be called the “American Express Gold Card.” The revamped card offers new and enhanced benefits in food and travel, as well as a new metal design. The new Gold Card now has an annual fee of $250, up from the Premier Rewards Gold Card’s previous fee of $195.

For a short time, card members can request a limited edition rose gold version of the Card through January 9, 2019.

  • 4X Membership Rewards points at US restaurants
  • 4X Membership Rewards points at US supermarkets–up to $25,000 per year
  • 3X Membership Rewards points on flights booked directly with airlines or on amextravel.com
  • $120 Dining Credit
  • $100 Airline Fee Credit
  • $250 Annual Fee

The new $120 Dining Credit gives enrolled Card Members up to $10 per month in statement credits when they use their Card at any of the following dining partners: participating Shake Shack locations, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Grubhub/Seamless.

The $100 Airline Fee Credit remains unchanged from the Premier Rewards Gold Card. Members can receive up to $100 in statement credits per year for incidental expenses like baggage fees at one selected airline.

With these changes, the current 2X Membership Rewards points on spend at U.S. Gas Stations earn will be no longer be offered on the Gold Card. Current Premier Rewards Gold Card Members will continue to receive this benefit until October 4, 2019, when this benefit will be discontinued.
